Ceiling lambs

A friend of mine asked me if i could build her some lamps for her ceiling in her apartment. Since the existing ones didn't work and she couldn't afford to let them fixed. Even tho i think this would be the responsibility from the landlord, i said yes and helped her.

My plan was to make some lamps the would be replaceable. So i found some LED lamps on the internet which are controlled via wireless control.

To make them look pretty i decided to use the electronics and make a new housing for them.

Therefore i sliced up a wood log into six small pieces.

I used a joiner and a planer to make them flat on each side.

Then i cut a "V-shape" on the outside ring using a jig and the table saw.

Next i soften the edges of the "V-shape" with a Dremel to fit in a rope.

To fit the LED light, i drilled a big hole in the middle.

I also ordered some metal plates and magnets from the internet.

For the metal plates a routed a groove at the backside.

Then i drilled some holes into the metal plates to fix the to the wood with some screws.

After that i build a cross out from wood stripes. In that cross i added with holes where i glued in with magnets.

The cross was held together with a screw, so i can get in the holes where the existing celling lights where held in.

Then i sanded, oiled and waxed the wood pieces.

Lastly i assembled the lamp and installed it on the ceiling.

My friend was happy and so was i.

I will redo this project someday and it will be available on my shop.
